Ben Joelson, 70, Emmy-winning television writer and producer. A prolific scriptwriter, Joelson wrote for such popular series as “The Love Boat” and “The Carol Burnett Show,” for which he earned an Emmy in 1972. He started out by writing for “Candid Camera” and the Robert Q. Lewis show on CBS, where he met the man who was to be his writing partner, Art Baer. The team wrote more than 100 scripts for situation comedies that included “Gomer Pyle,” “Get Smart,” “The Odd Couple,” “The Jeffersons” and “Hogan’s Heroes.” Joelson also wrote variety scripts for a number of stars--Victor Borge, Perry Como, Jim Nabors as well as Burnett.
