Crude Oil Prices Likely to Rise Further: International crude oil prices rose slightly Friday and will probably go higher yet this week as intensified fighting between Iraqi troops and Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq threatens Iraq’s plans to resume legal exports of crude oil, albeit on a limited basis, for the first time since 1990. Iraq was barred from the international market that year after it invaded Kuwait. Last week, Iraq submitted to the United Nations its “oil-for-aid” plan to sell $2 billion worth of oil during a six-month period. But most of the oil would have to be exported through the 1.2-million-barrel-a-day pipeline that goes through Kurdish regions and ends up at the Turkish Mediterranean export terminal of Iskenderun.
