Airbus Unveils $3 Billion in Orders: Airbus Industrie said the orders bring its total for the year to $17 billion, triple the figure for all of 1995. The European aircraft maker said it maintained a 37% share of the passenger jetliner market, behind its bigger rival Boeing Co. of Seattle, which on Monday announced orders of $7.17 billion. Both announcements were made at Farnborough International Air Show in Britain. Airbus executives also said they still plan to spend $8 billion developing the company’s biggest plane yet, the A3XX, in a bid to challenge Boeing in the jumbo jet market for the first time. Boeing has plans for an expanded 747 model.
