County OKs Plan to Improve Dexter Park

Share

Dexter County Park in Kagel Canyon is in line to get $650,000 worth of improvements, including a new basketball court and picnic area, under a plan approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The board on Tuesday voted to accept $250,000 from the city of Los Angeles in money from the Lopez Canyon Trust Fund--a pot of money reserved for the neighborhood in the area near the recently closed Lopez Canyon Landfill in Lake View Terrace.

The additional $400,000 in funds come from Proposition A park funds.

The city of Los Angeles must still approve the contract for $250,000--which includes a provision that requires the county to return the money if the county closes the park within the next 10 years due to budget cutbacks.

The contract sets a Feb. 15 deadline for completion of the improvements, which will include the replacement of the park’s existing play area and the construction of a new play area; the refurbishing of the community building; access road and drainage system improvements; park signs, and a new walking path that will be in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
