Orange Coast Teams to Sport a New Look

Share

In preparation for its 50th anniversary, now about two years away, Orange Coast College is doing a bit of sprucing up.

The first step was taken last spring when the college decided to change its colors from red, white and black.

As of this year, sports teams at OCC will begin wearing orange, navy blue and white. Orange was chosen because of the school’s name and blue because of the proximity to the ocean, officials said.

Fourteen of the school’s 23 athletic teams will wear the new colors this year, OCC spokesman Jim Carnett said. The remaining nine will change to new uniforms over the following two seasons.

By July, the college should also have a new logo.

It also has begun a design competition to create a college logo. The competition is open to all OCC students, faculty and staff. The college’s foundation has agreed to award a $500 scholarship to the creator of the winning design. The submission deadline is Friday, Oct. 18.

A panel will recommend three to five finalists, and members of the campus community will then vote for their favorite.
