We could not agree more with your editorial, “Back to Square One: MTA Needs a New Basic Plan” (Sept. 2), and most particularly, your conclusion that the MTA cannot be allowed to fail.

From day one, this union has denounced the so-called “20-year plan” as being as unrealistic as its destructive predecessor, the “30-year plan,” because both were based on politics rather than economic reality.

The people of Los Angeles County need more and better public transit now and the only way that can be achieved is through increasing the bus operation.

A new plan is needed to restore public confidence and support in the agency and that can only be achieved by solving today’s problems now and not sacrificing today’s transit-dependent for an uncertain future.
