Pinkerton’s Inc., an Encino security and investigation services firm, said it has formed a business alliance to help combat gangs targeting high-tech computer hackers and “cyber-criminals” who threaten financial networks and Internet commerce.

Terms of the two-year alliance with Science Applications International Corp. were not disclosed. Science Applications, based in San Diego, is a provider of information technology with annual revenue of $2.2 billion.

Pinkerton’s also unveiled a prototype version of a computer-enhanced, high-tech security system that will serve as a model for security officers in the future. The prototype includes Rockwell’s new Trekker system, a mobile information system worn on a belt or shoulder strap, which works with a voice-controlled Pentium computer system.

The Trekker system would allow a security officer to quickly relay information back to a central monitoring station, the company said.
