Parents of Freshmen Invited to Seminar

Nearly all high schools help incoming freshmen adjust to the rigors of high school.

But at Agoura High School, the parents of these young students will also have a chance to have their own concerns and questions addressed.

The Agoura Parent/Faculty Club is sponsoring a “Families Helping Families Seminar,” where a panel of juniors and seniors and their parents discuss strategies for successfully navigating the first days of high school.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the school library, 28545 W. Driver Ave. Organizers said it was planned after the club received positive feedback about its “Kids Helping Kids Seminar” held in May.

“This time it will be the parents’ turn to speak to these same incoming students and their parents,” said Kelly Smith, student representative to the club.

Among the topics to be discussed are the panel members’ own experiences as parents of high school students, as well as information about college planning resources, extracurricular activities and tutoring options.

The high school serves the Agoura Hills and Westlake Village areas, and all families--parents and siblings--of Agoura freshmen are invited.

The meeting is designed to take the mystery out of entering high school and to create a user-friendly place on campus, Kelly said.
