Redondo Beach to Open Hazardous Waste Center

Share

Residents of Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach will soon have a place to deposit hazardous household materials. Redondo Beach plans to open its new household hazardous-waste collection facility at 2420 Marine Ave. on Nov. 2. And Manhattan Beach has decided that it will help pay for part of the cost to run the facility in return for residents being able to dump their hazardous household items there. Those items include used motor oil, batteries, cleaning solvents, pesticides, unwanted paint, unused oven cleaner, weed killer and chlorine.

The cost to operate the facility will be split depending on how many residents from each city use it.

Right now, it will only be used by residents in Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach. Later, small businesses in the two cities will be allowed to drop off hazardous materials, said Tami Piscotty, the resource conservation supervisor for Redondo Beach.
