Perot to Announce Running Mate Pick

Ross Perot said he will announce his vice presidential running mate during a 30-minute TV ad tonight. Perot said his No. 2 “has the background, experience and the qualifications.” But he wouldn’t give any hints about who it might be. He had said when he accepted the Reform Party’s presidential nomination on Aug. 18 that he would announce a running mate soon after Labor Day. In addition to the infomercial, which has been taped to air tonight, CNN is expected to interview the running mate on “Larry King Live” at 9 p.m. EDT. Perot told the Economic Club of Detroit that the political ad also will discuss his policies on income taxes and his promise to abolish the current system.
