Ventura County nurses will receive a 2% raise under a contract approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

A total of 328 full-time nurses who work for the Ventura County Medical Center and other public health agencies will benefit from the one-year contract, which takes effect Sept. 22.

The salary increase will cost a total of $253,300, said Barbara Journet, the county’s contract negotiator. Of that amount, $177,800 will come from the county hospital and the rest from the county general fund, she said.

The new contract will also allow nurses to cash in up to two weeks of unused vacation time a year. Currently, they are allowed to cash in only one week, Journet said.
