McEwan Gets Rosy Glimpse Into His Future

Share

As far as UCLA is concerned, Scott McEwan is in the bag. The Thousand Oaks High quarterback committed his intent to accept a scholarship offer from the Bruins months ago.

That doesn’t mean he won’t get the royal recruiting treatment anyway.

McEwan will be UCLA’s guest today for the Bruins’ game against Northeast Louisiana at the Rose Bowl. He will take part in a tailgate barbecue with boosters, meet the coaches’ families and stand on the sidelines while the Bruins warm up.

“We’ve got good seats and stuff,” McEwan said. “It’s pretty neat. I’ve been to the Rose Bowl once but never on the field.”

But the junior quarterback, who threw for 947 yards, eight touchdowns and 13 interceptions last year, is undergoing an overhaul under first-year Cardinal Coach Hoppy Mumford.

“Willie’s established a lot of bad habits,” said Mumford, who has focused on mechanics and decision-making with Zavala.

Camarillo should win the team competition, but the battle in No. 1 singles should be a tight match between Darian Chappell and Rio Mesa’s Zuzana Stunova.
