SMALL FACES: The release of the debut album by Dogstar (the band that includes Keanu Reeves) has been pushed back from this week to early next year, though it has already received considerable advance press coverage. No reason was given by the band’s label, Zoo Records, for the delay. . . .

David Bowie will turn 50 on Jan. 8 and will soon thereafter release a new album, “Earthlings,” which he is currently recording in New York with his touring band. It’s the first album he’s producing for himself since 1974’s “Diamond Dogs.” He’s previewed the set by making one song from the sessions, “Telling Lies,” available to fans on the Internet. . . .

Elvis Presley, Mariah Carey, Rush Limbaugh and Carmen Miranda were among those participating in a shoot for a Rutles video last week at Virgin Records’ Beverly Hills office--well, look-alikes for those figures were there. Among the allegedly real celebs on hand for the “We Are the World” style session for the song “Shangri-la,” from the upcoming “Archaeology” album were Pat Boone, Nancy Sinatra, Graham Nash, Paul Williams, Aimee Mann and Michael Penn. . . .

Speaking of Michael Penn, the L.A. rocker recently won a lengthy fight to be released from his RCA Records contract and has finished a new album with producer Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam) that will be released in January on O’Brien’s Sony-distributed 57 Records label. . . .

Arista is set to reissue Graham Parker’s much-praised 1979 “Squeezing Out Sparks” with a bonus on the same disc: the entire “Live Sparks,” an album that was released only to radio and press featuring a complete in-concert run-through of the studio album plus versions of Parker’s scathing “Mercury Poisoning” jab at his former label and the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back.’
