Police Checkpoint Nets 6 DUI Suspects

A sobriety checkpoint set up by Oxnard police officers Saturday night netted six drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

More than 1,000 cars passed through the checkpoint, the 10th staged this year by the Oxnard Police Department.

The checkpoint was set up about 7 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Oxnard Boulevard south of 1st Street, said Randy Latimer, an Oxnard traffic officer. Of the 1,041 cars that passed through the inspection site before police closed it at 2 a.m. Sunday, 1,010 were screened for violations.

Officers conducted 24 field sobriety tests and cited 22 drivers for driver’s license violations. In addition, 19 vehicles were towed from drivers who were either arrested on suspicion of being drunk or cited for license violations.
