Nordstrom and several Southern California hospitals are joining forces to operate mammography centers inside the chain’s department stores. The first California Mammography Center opened last Tuesday at the Nordstrom in Glendale, in conjunction with Huntington Memorial Hospital and the Hill Breast Center. A second unit began operating the next day at a store in Riverside, staffed by specialists from Loma Linda University Cancer Institute.

Nordstrom previously had opened a mammography center at its store in Illinois.

The chain “strives to be sensitive and responsive to the needs of the communities we serve,” said Nordstrom Co-President Pete Nordstrom. “We feel fortunate to team up with these outstanding health-care facilities.”

The chain currently has no plans for a center in Orange County. That could change, however, said Nordstrom spokeswoman Carrie Myklebust, if a store manager in Orange County decides that the service would be a solid addition.
