Club Puts the Drive in Voter Registration

Share

In a final push before the November election, the Camarillo Rotary Club is working to get out the vote without having people get out of their cars.

Each Saturday until Oct. 5, Rotarians will register voters at the drive-up window of the Wells Fargo Bank branch at Arneill Road and Pickwick Drive in Camarillo. Voter registration also will be conducted at the bank’s drive-up window on Oct. 6 and 7, the last days to register to vote in the Nov. 5 election.

The drive-up window will be open on those days from 9:15 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.

It is the second time since 1994 that the Rotary Club has used the drive-up window to aid its voter registration efforts, said club member Thomas McCoy.

“I do it because I think we’ll have better elected officials if more people register to vote,” McCoy said. “I want people to know that we’re open and that they can go there to vote without having to get out of their cars.”

In 1994, McCoy said, volunteers registered 500 voters. He said he is hoping to register twice that amount for the fall election.
