Charges Filed in Counterfeit Software Case: Two companies and five people were charged in connection with a software piracy scheme that reproduced and distributed more than 200,000 bogus copies of Microsoft Corp.’s Windows or MS-DOS software worth more than $3 million, said U.S. Atty. Michael Yamaguchi. The charges, handed down by a grand jury in San Jose, named U-Top Printing Co. and U-Win Printing Co., along with five people connected to the firms. The companies and individuals were charged with criminal contempt of court, copyright infringement, trafficking in counterfeit goods and conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit goods, Yamaguchi said. The companies and individuals couldn’t be reached for comment.
