* Beryl Gene Hier; Retired Point Mugu Employee

Beryl Gene Hier, a retired civilian employee at Point Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station, died in a Ventura hospital Friday after a brief illness. He was 62.

Hier was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Omaha, Neb., and had lived in Ventura County for 40 years.

He served with the Navy from 1952 to 1956 and was employed for 38 years in the telemetry division at Point Mugu.

Gardening and fishing were among Hier’s passions.

Hier is survived by his wife, Marjorie E. Hier of Ventura; sons, Robert Hier of Shaver Lake and Steven Hier of Ventura; daughter, Pamela Komatz of Ventura; mother, Marjorie Hier; brothers, Hugh Hier and Joe Hier; sisters, Alice Ryan and Eva Sanders; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura, with Pastor Leonard De Witt officiating.
