Expanded 911 System Approved

Ventura County supervisors on Tuesday approved the expenditure of $212,894 to expand and update communications systems within the sheriff’s and district attorney’s offices.
The money will be used to create backup and additional capacity for the sheriff’s computer-aided dispatch and 911 emergency telephone systems, officials said. Communications programs in the district attorney’s office will also be improved.
The money for the project will come from the state. Gov. Pete Wilson recently approved an anti-crime bill that provides $100 million to counties and cities statewide for a wide range of public safety services.
Under the state’s Citizens Option for Public Safety Program, the county and its 10 cities will split a total of $2.2 million in extra funding.
