3 Draw Maximum Terms for Credit Union Robbery

Three people convicted of robbing a Lake Forest credit union office in 1995 have received maximum sentences.
Robert Dwayne Scott, 28, of Long Beach, Curtis Dwayne Jackson, 27, of Compton and Cynthia Sharrell Cyprian, 28, of Moreno Valley were sentenced respectively to prison terms of 11 1/2 years, 11 years and 11 years and three months.
The three pleaded guilty last year to armed robbery at the Orange County Federal Credit Union in Lake Forest. Scott ordered the bank manager to give him money from the vault, while Jackson guarded the remaining employees and customers. They escaped with $56,000 in a getaway car driven by Cyprian.
In sentencing Scott and Jackson on Monday, U.S. District Judge James M. Ideman rejected their claim for leniency. The three claimed they had been pressured into the act because of a threat to Scott and his family from a person demanding money. The judge increased Cyprian’s sentence because she participated in the robbery while out on bail pending sentencing for a similar incident a few months before in Lakewood.
