Freshman starters Faaesea Mailo and Chris Claiborne got high marks for their first appearances against Houston last Saturday.

Mailo, a 350-pound offensive tackle, started at left guard for injured Chris Brymer, and Claiborne started at middle linebacker for Taso Papadakis, who needed to rest a sore ankle and knee.

Mailo played well, said offensive line coach Mike Barry, and Claiborne showed “major improvement,” according to Coach John Robinson.
