Prosecutors demanded the immediate imprisonment of Joseph Waldholtz on Wednesday, alleging that the ex-husband of Rep. Enid Greene (R-Utah) used heroin and continued to write bad checks as he awaited sentencing for bank fraud and other misdeeds.

Waldholtz’s lawyer, Barbara Nicastro, was not available for comment.

U.S. Atty. Eric H. Holder alleged in papers filed with the court that Waldholtz’s violations included:

* Using heroin daily for at least several weeks.

* Forging a prescription for Vicodin, an addictive painkiller.

* Stealing checks from his stepmother.

* Forging his father’s signature on a $415 check to himself.

* Writing seven bad checks to his parents for a total of $24,600, with $18,000 of the checks written after Waldholtz closed the account.

* Borrowing a friend’s American Express card to buy a birthday present for his daughter but instead making $550 in purchases, none of them a present.

Waldholtz pleaded guilty June 6 to four criminal charges: bank fraud, making false statements, failure to report campaign contributions and assisting in filing a fraudulent tax return. Some of the charges stem from a $3-million check-kiting scheme when Waldholtz managed his wife’s 1994 congressional campaign.
