Court Upholds Dow Chemical’s Dismissal From Implant Cases: The Midland, Mich.-based company said the California Court of Appeal in San Diego has upheld a lower court ruling that dismisses it from liability in 1,800 silicone breast implant lawsuits. Dow Chemical and Dow Corning Corp., a joint venture with Corning Inc., have been sued by thousands of women with silicone breast implants who allege they have caused medical problems. Dow Chemical argued that because it did not develop or manufacture breast implants, it should not be held responsible based on its half-ownership of Dow Corning. Dow Corning was at one time the world’s largest maker of silicone breast implants.
