Summertime Heat Will Linger a Bit

According to the calendar, the time for summer has passed, but the temperatures of the season will linger a bit longer.

“A gradual goodbye,” said Stuart Seto, spokesman for the National Weather Service in Oxnard, in describing the slow drop-off in temperatures as the late-night and early-morning fog typical for this time of year continues in the San Fernando Valley.

The morning fog in the Valley clears quickly, often leaving nothing more than a few drop of moisture on car windshields by 9 a.m., Seto said. On the other side of the hill, the fog lasts until later in the day because of the effect of cool ocean air.

Temperatures in the Valley this week will be in the mid-80s to low 90s. Otherwise no dramatic changes are expected. A high-pressure system is sitting to the north, near San Francisco, and a low-pressure system to the south is hovering over northern Baja California.

“There’s nothing coming for the next three or four days right now,” Seto said.

For Monday, high temperatures are expected to be 87 in Burbank, 89 in Van Nuys and Northridge, and 92 in Woodland Hills. Tuesday’s temperatures will likely be a couple of degrees cooler, Seto said.
