Candidates’ Forum Scheduled Tuesday

Candidates for local government offices will be brought together by the West Valley Jewish Community Center to give an overview of their platforms Tuesday.

The forum is open to the public and will begin at about 10:30 a.m., following a 10 a.m. bagel brunch in the auditorium of the Bernard Milken Jewish Community Campus, 22622 Vanowen St.

Scheduled to be on hand are candidates for two statewide posts. Vying for the senate seat in the 23rd District are incumbent Democrat Tom Hayden and Republican challenger Scott Schreiber. The candidates for the assembly seat in the 41st District are incumbent Democrat Sheila Kuehl and Republican Mark Benhard.

Democratic candidate Brad Sherman and GOP candidate Rich Sybert, in a battle over the 24th District congressional post, are expected to be on hand. Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti and challenger John Lynch, both running for the Los Angeles district attorney position, are also scheduled to attend.

The center sponsors candidate forums periodically to give members an opportunity to “meet the candidates and see them together, Democrats and Republicans,” said Susan Mahler, a center spokeswoman.

Admission to the forum is $1.50 for center members, and $3 for nonmembers. For information, call (818) 587-3283.
