Reunion Planned for Neonatal Unit ‘Grads’

Share

A reunion for “graduates” of the Ventura County Medical Center neonatal intensive care unit will take place Oct. 13 at the medical center in Ventura.

Since its opening in 1973, the unit has cared for thousands of critically ill newborns whose ailments range from low weight due to being born prematurely to being full-term babies with surgical needs. Two-thirds of the children treated are uninsured.

Reunion chairman Dr. Michael Mah said the Oct. 13 “country fair” will bring together parents whose children were cared for in the 30-bed unit and the nearly 100 medical personnel who have cared for them. A similar reunion in 1983 was attended by 3,000 people, he said.

Commemorative T-shirts will be given to each graduate and food will include corn dogs, cotton candy and an anniversary cake. There will be a range of activities for children.

The reunion will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. in front of the medical center, 3291 Loma Vista Road. Call 652-6093 to register.
