Turner Apologizes for ‘Fuhrer’ Remark: Last Thursday, Turner accused Murdoch of using his newspapers as weapons in a media war. He told reporters, “Talking to Murdoch is like confronting the late Fuhrer.” The Anti-Defamation League civil rights group, which had written to Turner protesting the remark, said Turner wrote back, “I hope you and all those offended by this comment will accept my deepest apology.” According to the ADL, Turner said his comparison referred “only to the way Hitler managed the news in Germany. It was not intended to offend nor to trivialize the role of an individual who wreaked so much havoc upon the Jewish people.” At issue between Cable News Network founder Ted Turner and News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch was whether Time Warner Inc., the nation’s second-largest cable operator, would carry Murdoch’s competing Fox News Channel, which will be launched Monday.
