Ken Baumgartner, #22

Age: 30, Left wing, Shoots: L

Veteran tough guy who is not above a little skating, passing and scoring. Acquired from Toronto for a fourth-round pick. Had one assist and 41 penalty minutes in 12 games for the Ducks. A former King who once compiled 288 penalty minutes in a season.

Age: 28, Center, Shoots: L

Signed as a free agent Aug. 20, he has 72 games of NHL experience with Hartford and the New York Islanders. Played in the minors last season for the Detroit Vipers and the Las Vegas Thunder, where he was a teammate of the Ducks’ first-round draft pick, Salei.

Bobby Dollas, #2

Age: 31, Defenseman, Shoots: L

The Ducks’ most dependable defenseman and perhaps their top offensive defenseman. One of only five remaining original Ducks. Had eight goals and 30 points, tops among Duck defensemen and fifth overall. His plus-minus rating of plus nine also was tops among defensemen.

Ted Drury, #13

Age: 25, Center, Shoots: L

Two-way center with good speed was acquired Tuesday in deal that sent defenseman Jason York and center Shaun Van Allen to Ottawa. Scored 16 points in 42 games last season before breaking wrist. Drafted out of Harvard in the second round by Calgary in 1989.

Guy Hebert, #31

Age: 29, Goalie, Catches: L

After going 1-6-1 to start the season, settled into a groove and had best NHL season. Bailed out the Ducks often during late-season playoff drive that just fell short. Finished with 2.83 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and 28-23-5 record. Had three shutouts in final 13 games.

Alex Hicks, #32

Age: 27, Left wing, Shoots: L

Pleasant surprise who made the most of his first chance in NHL. Impressed with grinding style that led to 10 goals and 11 assists in 64 games for the Ducks. Won two games with overtime goals. Led minor league affiliate at Baltimore in scoring when recalled Nov. 8.

J.F. Jomphe, #46

Age: 24, Center, Shoots: L

Mid-season call-up who impressed with his passionate style. Missed first week of training camp while contract talks dragged on. Had 21 goals and 55 points in 47 games for Baltimore of the American Hockey League, then added two goals and 14 points in 31 games with the Ducks.

Paul Kariya, #9

Age: 22, Left wing, Shoots: L

Became the first 50-goal scorer in Duck history last season. Also won Lady Byng trophy and set a team record with 108 points. Missed the World Cup of Hockey and training camp because of abdominal muscle injury and was hoping to be ready to play at the start of the season.

David Karpa, #6

Age: 25, Defenseman, Shoots: R

The man opponents love to hate. Missed training camp and the exhibition season because of a contract dispute. Adds a healthy dose of toughness to the defense. Not skilled offensively, but isn’t called upon to quarterback the power play. Mucking in the corners is more to his liking anyway.

Valeri Karpov, #11

Age: 25, Right wing, Shoots: L

Progress slowed by a fractured right wrist that sidelined him for 29 games last season. Hasn’t electrified the coaching staff or management as originally hoped when drafted in the third round of the 1993 entry draft. Scored nine goals with eight assists in 37 games for the Ducks last season.

Jari Kurri, #17

Age: 36, Center, Shoots: R

Linemate of Wayne Gretzky for Edmonton and the Kings. Helped the Oilers win five Stanley Cups. Sure-fire Hall of Famer. Has scored 583 goals, ranking seventh in NHL history. Also has 758 assists. Split last season with the Kings and the New York Rangers.

Jason Marshall, #23

Age: 25, Defenseman, Shoots: R

Made the most of his first extended opportunity to play in the NHL. Played solid defense and had 42 penalty minutes in 24 games for the Ducks. His fine play helped to keep veteran Randy Ladouceur in the press box during crucial late-season games.

Roman Oksiuta, #10

Age: 26, Right wing, Shoots: L

Signed a two-year contract in September that will pay him $600,000 this season and $700,000 in 1997-98. Added size (6 feet 3, 230 pounds) and grit (seven goals, 12 points in 14 games) in front of the net and in the corners after being traded from Vancouver for Mike Sillinger March 15.

Fredrik Olausson, #4

Age: 30, Defenseman, Shoots: R

Key acquisition plucked off the waiver wire from Edmonton Jan. 16. Helped stabilize defense and give anemic power play a boost. Had two goals and 16 assists in 36 games for the Ducks. The Ducks were 18-14-3 after he joined the team.

Adrian Plavsic, #25

Age: 26, Defenseman, Shoots: L

Signed as a free agent on Aug. 27. Split last season with Tampa Bay and Atlanta of International Hockey League. Also has played for Vancouver. Played 68 games for Atlanta last season and was the Knights’ top scoring defenseman with five goals and 39 points.

Steve Rucchin, #20

Age: 25, Center, Shoots: L

Product of little-known, little-scouted Canadian collegiate system. Played four seasons at the University of Western Ontario before drafted by Ducks in 1994 supplemental draft. Was Ducks’ fourth-leading scorer with 19 goals and 44 points.

Warren Rychel, #16

Age: 29, Right wing, Shoots: L

Veteran tough guy who always seemed to have a good game against the Ducks. Not counted on to score, but can do it occasionally. More of a middleweight than heavyweight, but eager to mix it up against the big boys. Had a big playoff goal for Stanley Cup champion Colorado last season.

Age: 27, Left wing, Shoots: L

Turned in a solid season, but occasionally seemed to disappoint Coach Ron Wilson. Had 13 goals and 27 points in 76 games. With trades and progress of younger players, he’s not counted on to supply as much offense as in the past. Still has tremendous speed, potential.

Age: 21, Defenseman, Shoots: R

The Ducks’ first-round pick in the 1996 draft. Played last season with the Las Vegas Thunder of the International Hockey League. Had seven goals and 30 points in 76 games. Also was third in the IHL with a plus-minus rating of plus 42. Quite an impressive showing in training camp.

Teemu Selanne, #8

Age: 26, Right wing, Shoots: R

Feb. 7 trade from Winnipeg transformed Ducks into serious hockey team. Teamed with Kariya to form one of the top one-two scoring punches in the NHL. Had 40 goals and 108 points, including 16 goals and 36 points in 28 games for the Ducks. His 68 assists were a career-best.

Mikhail Shtalenkov, #35

Age: 31, Goalie, Catches: L

Capable backup who played for Russia in the World Cup of Hockey. Was 7-16-3 in 30 games last season, his third with the Ducks. Had a 3.11 goals-against average and .896 save percentage. Played six seasons for Dynamo Moscow before coming to North America in 1992.

Nikolai Tsulygin, #26

Age: 21, Defenseman. Shoots: L

Second-round pick behind Kariya in 1993 draft is finally on verge of being NHL player. His 6-4, 200-pound build and athletic ability make him a tantalizing prospect but it took him a long time to shed his timid style and become comfortable with the North American culture.

Garry Valk, #18

Age: 29, Left wing, Shoots: L

Tremendous grinder and willing to do the dirty work to help the Ducks win. Had 12 goals and 24 points last season--including first career hat trick. Does best work in the corners and in front of the net. One of three left who were on the Ducks’ opening-night roster in 1993.

Darren Van Impe, #48

Age: 23, Defenseman, Shoots: L

Called up from Baltimore of the American Hockey League March 6 and played well in 16 late-season games. Had one goal and three points with a plus-minus rating of plus eight. Was second among defensemen in the AHL with 11 goals and 58 points when he was called up to the Ducks.
