Tustin remained undefeated after a 42-24 victory over Huntington Beach Friday night despite some mistakes in the third quarter that kept the Oilers within striking distance.

The Tillers (4-0) built a 28-7 halftime lead and Greg Carnal ran 80 yards for touchdown and a 28-point lead on the first play of the second half.

Huntington Beach (1-3) chipped away at the advantage with a 35-yard field goal by Brent Chancellor.

Tustin fumbled on a pitchout and Damon Van Hoorebeke recovered to give the Oilers the ball on the Tustin 31. Reserve quarterback Jeff Lineberger, replacing injured starter David Van Hoorebeke, threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Dennis Masuda three plays later.

After Tustin got the ball back, Carnal was stripped of it by Huntington Beach’s Adam Nyssen. That set up the Oilers at the Tiller 25.

Five plays later, Lineberger and Masuda connected on a 17-yard pass. The extra point by Chancellor made it 35-24 with 34 seconds left in the third quarter.

Tustin punted and lost another possession to a fumble in the fourth quarter, but were able to put the game out of reach with 2:24 left on a five-yard run by Foster.

The Tillers got big performances from running backs DeShaun Foster (140 yards, three touchdowns), Carnal (123 yards) and Brandon Lambert (106 yards, two touchdowns).
