Kentucky Has No Answer to Alabama’s Riddle

Junior tailback Dennis Riddle, starting in place of injured Curtis Alexander, tied a school record with four touchdowns as No. 13 Alabama beat Kentucky, 35-7, in a Southeastern Conference game Saturday at Tuscaloosa, Ala..

Riddle scored on runs of one, two and six yards and caught a 35-yard scoring pass from Freddie Kitchen--all in the third quarter--to help the Crimson Tide (5-0 overall, 3-0 in the SEC) defeat the Wildcats (1-4, 0-2) after the score was tied 7-7 at halftime.

The game was Kentucky Coach Bill Curry’s first at Tuscaloosa since he left Alabama in 1989 to become coach of the Wildcats.

Kentucky had only 124 yards.

No. 14 Louisiana State 35, Vanderbilt 0--Behind two touchdowns apiece by running backs Kevin Faulk and Rondell Mealey, the Tigers kept alive their longest winning streak in 23 years at Baton Rouge, La.

LSU (4-0, 2-0) has won seven consecutive games dating to 1995.

The Tigers didn’t allow Vanderbilt (0-4, 0-3) past the their 40 until the closing seconds of the third quarter.

No. 20 Auburn 28, South Carolina 24--Defensive end Mark Smith forced a fourth-quarter fumble that set up quarterback Dameyune Craig’s 10-yard run for the game’s decisive touchdown at Auburn, Ala.

The outcome was still doubt until the last 28 seconds when South Carolina (2-3, 1-2) turned the ball over on downs to Auburn (4-1, 2-1).

Georgia 38, Mississippi State 19--Mike Bobo threw two of his career-high three touchdown passes in the Bulldogs’ first five possessions at Starkville, Miss.

After Mississippi State (2-2, 1-1) drove 86 yards in 17 plays on its opening drive, Georgia (2-2, 1-1) needed only five plays to score twice and take the lead for good.
