Traveling Farther, Spending More in ’97

Share

Americans will be traveling farther and spending more in 1997, according to the American Society of Travel Agents. In a survey of 353 members, 57.8% of agents said they expect Americans to spend more on travel than they did in 1996; last year, a minority, only 48.9%, saw more spending. And this year, 67.7% said bookings to international destinations are up.

Agents expect Orlando, Fla., to remain the top domestic destination, followed by Las Vegas (third last year) and Los Angeles (fifth last year). ASTA spokesman Steve Loucks said the survey is based on consumer inquiries about travel plans, among other factors.
