A job fair that’s serious about providing employment is scheduled at Panorama Mall on Thursday.

“Businesses need to have at least 10 jobs available to participate in the fair,” said mall manager Louise Marquez. “We held our first job fair in June, and more than 200 people were hired from that event.”

The 50 businesses and organizations participating in the job fair include Coca-Cola, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Sizzler Restaurants, Sears, Six Flags Magic Mountain and the California Highway Patrol.

“A lot of people think there are no jobs out there. Well there are, but sometimes they are hard to find,” said Marquez. “We’ve put everybody together in one place to make it as convenient as possible.”

Representatives of the participating businesses will be stationed at tables where they will answer questions, hand out applications and conduct preliminary interviews.

The fair is organized by a coalition of seven agencies with different missions but a common goal of serving the community, Marquez said.

Sponsors include the County Department of Public Social Services, the Mid-Valley Chamber of Commerce, In-Home Support Services, El Proyecto del Barrio, Lutheran Social Services, Asian Pacific Community Service and L.A. Family Housing Corp.

The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the mall, at the corner of Roscoe and Van Nuys boulevards in Panorama City.
