Brioukhovets Wins Challenger Tennis
NEWPORT BEACH —
Elena Brioukhovets of the Ukraine won the U.S. Tennis Assn. Women’s Challenger on Sunday at the Newport Beach Marriott.
Brioukhovets, seeded seventh, won the title by beating third-seeded Mercedes Paz of Argentina, 6-2, 6-4.
Brioukhovets earned $4,000 and Paz received $2,350.
Paz and Rene Simpson of Canada won the doubles title with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Erica DeLone of Massachusetts and Nicole Pratt of Australia.
