City to Seek Bids to Build Police Station
As workers prepare to begin digging for the long-awaited police headquarters project this week, the Simi Valley City Council agreed Monday night to solicit bids for construction of the building itself.
The council voted unanimously to collect and evaluate offers from companies that hope to land the $10.6-million contract to build the 55,000-square-foot police station near City Hall.
While they wait for construction bids, city officials plan to break ground for the project Thursday, signaling the start of digging to relocate utility lines under the site.
Electrical, gas, sewer, phone and cable TV lines feeding City Hall run directly under the site at Alamo Street and Tapo Canyon Road--and right through the planned location of an underground garage for the headquarters building.
