Volunteers Sought for Street Cleanup

Share

The LAPD and several community groups are asking residents to participate in an Operation Sparkle neighborhood cleanup to take place Saturday.

Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the southwest corner of the Panorama Mall parking lot, at the corner of Roscoe Boulevard and Tobias Avenue. Cleanup activities will last until noon and volunteers will be served a free lunch, officials said.

Leslie Yamashita of the Panorama City Neighborhood Assn. said that although Operation Sparkle was created to fight graffiti it has expanded into a general street cleanup in the area.

“Our Panorama City Graffiti Busters are out there every week doing a good job, so we can concentrate on other things,” Yamashita said. “Our big focus is going to be getting rid of furniture that has been dumped in alleys and on streets.”

Yamashita said that all volunteers are appreciated but there is a special need for people who have trucks that can be used to help dispose of the discarded furniture.

“Bring your friends, family and neighbors. We need your help to make a difference,” Yamashita said.
