Capt. Rouse to Head Sheriff’s Academy
After six years spent supervising sheriff’s deputies in Moorpark, Capt. Martin Rouse will soon take on a new beat--managing training operations at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Academy.
The Sheriff’s Department, which provides police service to Moorpark, has named Rouse as the academy’s director. He will start his new post Nov. 3.
“It’s a good career move for me and, for Moorpark, it’s good to have some new blood there,” Rouse said Wednesday. “Everybody wins.”
The department has not yet named his replacement, although Rouse said his superiors may choose someone within the next week.
Rouse said Wednesday that during his tenure, he was pleased with the dent his officers have made in the city’s gang problem. “There were certain areas of town that people were afraid of, and you just don’t see that anymore,” he said.
Moorpark Councilman Pat Hunter, himself a sergeant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, said he will miss Rouse’s quick mind.
“I’m sorry to see him go,” Hunter said. “Marty is an extraordinarily bright individual with a lot of potential.”
