Ruling on Temp Workers Could Be Costly for Microsoft: Hundreds and possibly thousands of temporary or freelance workers employed by Microsoft Corp. over the last nine years are entitled to pensions and stock options denied to them, a federal court ruled earlier this month. In a decision that could cost Microsoft millions of dollars, the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Microsoft contract workers who performed the same duties under the same circumstances as regular workers were entitled to the same benefits. Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft has not yet decided whether it will appeal the ruling.
