Prop. 209, School Issues to Be Debated
The Conejo Valley school district race and the question of ending race- and gender-based preferences in state government will be the topics of a two-part debate Monday in Thousand Oaks.
The Jewish Federation-Valley Alliance, together with three local temples, will sponsor the forum, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Temple Etz Chaim. Admission is free.
Part of the debate will focus on Proposition 209, a measure on the November ballot that would abolish affirmative action in state government programs.
Richard Ferrier, a faculty member and accreditation liaison officer at Thomas Aquinas College near Santa Paula, will argue in favor of the measure. Raphael Sonenshein, a political science professor at Cal State Fullerton who writes about interracial relations, will speak in opposition.
The forum’s other half will include all six candidates for the Conejo Valley Unified School District board discussing issues important to the district.
