* The article saying that Disneyland became “no-room land” Oct. 5 fails to recognize that overcrowding at Disneyland is a chronic problem that often makes the experience of going there a miserable one.

After my family’s last visit there three years ago, we vowed never to return in this century. When we arrived at Disneyland in March 1993, we found a sea of people. Forget about the popular rides. Lines snaked for what appeared to be miles. There were times we literally could not move from one place to another.

The children made it onto two of the least popular rides. By then they were so tired and frustrated, they asked to be taken home. We later heard 55,000 people had entered the park. This time, The Times reports there were 80,000 people.

A more sensible approach would be for Disneyland to follow the lead of attractions, such as the Monterey Aquarium, which carefully limit attendance through computerized ticket services. If Disneyland fails to do so, the Magic Kingdom will no longer be the “happiest place on Earth.”
