Small Business Favors Dole: Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole leads President Clinton 52% to 32%, according to a recent nationwide telephone poll of 1,010 small-business owners. The Gallup Organization, which surveyed business owners with 10 or fewer employees, conducted the poll last month for CCH Inc., an Illinois business and tax law software company. Business owners contacted identified themselves as 58% Republican and 30% Democrat. Still, the results signaled a slip in support for the Republicans. A similar poll conducted in March before Dole had been chosen as the Republican contender indicated that 59% of small-business owners planned to vote for him. The poll also found that small-business owners ranked health-care costs as their top election-year concern, followed by tax deductions and state and federal government regulations.
