Council OK Sought for 305-Home Project

Share

A Monrovia-based company hopes to build 305 homes on a stretch of Moorpark land, the site of an earlier development project that never materialized.

The Overland Co. has filed for city permission to build on a 35-acre property between Maureen Lane and Liberty Bell Road. The City Council is scheduled to discuss the project at its Wednesday meeting.

In 1991, the council approved another development project on the same spot. Proposed by the Westland Co., the earlier project would have created 291 homes--a mixture of single-family houses and condominiums.

Westland’s project died, however, during the early 1990s’ recession, and the approvals granted by the City Council expired.

The city’s review of Overland’s plans is still in its early stages. The only council action expected Wednesday is a vote on whether the project meets the basic requirements necessary for the city to consider changing the zoning on the parcel. If the council gives its consent, the company will then make a formal application to change the zoning.
