University Sponsoring Event for Black Men

Share

Inspired by last year’s Million Man March in Washington, D.C., Cal State Northridge will hold its first Black Men’s Conference on Saturday.

The event will feature speeches by Los Angeles City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas and Amen Rahh, a black studies professor at Cal State Long Beach.

A year ago today, about 800,000 men gathered in Washington for the march organized by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. “We hope to provide a forum for 15- to 30-year-old males who are seeking answers on how to deal with the family, health and career options as well as prejudice, discrimination and economic advancement,” said Darius Riggins, a graduate student and conference co-chair.

Preregistration is $12. On-site registration is $15.

Fees will go toward a continental breakfast, lunch, entertainment and workshop costs.
