The Thousand Oaks City Employees Assn., city workers’ largest union, has endorsed candidates Linda Parks and Dan Del Campo for the City Council.

The group, part of the Service Employees International Union Local 998, includes about 245 city workers. The union decided to endorse Parks and Del Campo after meeting with the candidates last week.

It also agreed to contribute money to their campaigns. Parks received $750, and Del Campo received $250.

“I’m happy that they endorsed Dan and myself because they understand it takes two people to make a change on the City Council,” Parks said. “They could have chosen the incumbent, but they thought a change was in order.”

Nine people are running for two council seats in the Nov. 5 election. Incumbent Mike Markey, a Compton homicide detective, is seeking reelection. Former Councilwoman Jaime Zukowski resigned in August to move to Colorado, opening another seat.

The challengers are Parks, a planning commissioner; Del Campo, a marketing consultant; Norm Jackson, a retired mechanic; David Seagal, a civil engineer; Nick E. Quidwai, an office machines salesman; Ramaul Rush, a children’s court investigator; Tom Lee, a computer consultant and UCLA student; and Marshall Dixon, a retired auto dealership manager.
