Investigators identified a man shot in a gun battle with police Tuesday as Salvador Ramires Cabrera, a 27-year-old convicted felon, authorities said Wednesday.

Cabrera was in stable condition at Western Medical Center-Anaheim and is expected to survive multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting capped a pursuit that began when a patrol officer tried to stop Cabrera for speeding near Ball Road and Holder Street, police said.

The chase ended near La Salle Street and Merten Avenue in Cypress, where Cabrera stopped his car and came out shooting at police, authorities and witnesses said. One Anaheim officer and four Cypress officers returned fire, striking Cabrera several times.

A witness said that the driver had ignored officers’ orders to surrender and drop his weapon.

Details on Cabrera’s criminal records were not available Wednesday. Authorities said they will seek charges against Cabrera, including attempted murder of a police officer and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
