GM Calls Back 3,866 Plant Workers in Mexico: The recall of workers who had been idled by a Canadian Auto Workers strike against the company comes a day after the Detroit-based auto maker and the CAW set a Monday noon deadline for resolving the strike. General Motors Corp. said 7,421 workers remain laid off, about two-thirds in the U.S. and the rest in Mexico. Most make engines, transmissions and other parts. The company has idled just one U.S. assembly plant because of the strike, the 2,450-worker Cadillac luxury car plant in Detroit. The recalled workers make wire harnesses and other automotive electrical equipment for GM’s Delphi Packard Electric unit. Separately, CAW President Basil “Buzz” Hargrove said he hopes intensive negotiations this weekend will end the 15-day strike.
