More TWA Debris Located in Ocean
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Investigators were upbeat after learning that sonar had detected more of TWA Flight 800’s wreckage on the ocean floor, a source said. More than 400 new targets--most of which were believed to be pieces of the downed jumbo jet--were found by the Navy’s high-tech side-scanning device. Investigators are hopeful the discoveries will yield evidence that will explain what caused the Paris-bound jet to blow up minutes after taking off from Long Island, N.Y. The crash killed all 230 people aboard.
