‘Queen Margot’

Derived from an Alexander Dumas romance, this 1994 French film is rich and full of verve. Director Patrice Chereau keeps the action buzzing and the faces looming. The drama is propelled by Catherine de Medici, the Catholic Queen of France (Virna Lisi) marrying her daughter Margot (Isabelle Adjani, pictured) to the Protestant Henri of Navarre (Daniel Auteuil), but Margot develops a passion for another Protestant, the Lord of La Mole (Vincent Perez) (Cinemax Wednesday at 11:45 p.m.).
