Park District Offers Its Own Web Site

The Conejo Recreation and Park District is jumping into the Internet frenzy with its own Web site, featuring information on parks, play fields and other facilities.

Park spokesman David Jorgenson said the site includes a color-coded map showing the locations of all parks in the Conejo Valley. By clicking on a particular park, Internet surfers can find out what each park has to offer.

“They can find out how many swing sets are at a specific park if they want,” Jorgenson said. “Or if it has a tot lot for the kids to play, or basketball or volleyball courts.”

The district hopes to expand the site to include online registration for classes, reservations for facilities, board meeting agendas, calendars of events and information on community centers. Jorgenson said the timing of expansion will depend on the reception the Conejo Valley gives the first phase of their Internet experiment, but it could take place in three to six months.

The site has been in operation on a trial basis for about a week, Jorgenson said. Although its existence was not publicized, a half-dozen curious browsers have already visited the site.

Some of their comments have already impacted plans for phase two of the experiment, Jorgenson said.

“One guy wanted to get onto a list for volleyball teams,” he said. “So I went to the sports guys and we’re talking about putting together some kind of a sign-up sheet on the site.”

The address of the new site is www.crpd.org/parks/
