The Times Posts Daily Circulation Gain: The Los Angeles Times said its daily circulation is up 16,884, or 1.7%, to 1,029,073, according to figures filed with the Audit Bureau of Circulations for the six-month period ended Sept. 30, subject to audit. The gain represents the first weekday circulation increase in five years for The Times. Sunday circulation, however, declined by 60,232, or 4.3%, to 1,349,889. The Times attributed its daily circulation gains to aggressive marketing and pricing steps taken during the summer, when it reduced the price of the weekday paper from 50 cents to 25 cents throughout the five-county Southern California market. The Sunday circulation decline, which was expected, is the result of home-delivery price increases and cutbacks in introductory discount offers to subscribers.
