Church Tax Status
Re “Colorado Initiative Targets Churches’ Tax-Exempt Status,” Oct. 8:
The church is usually not in the business of making money but spending money on people. This money is collected from taxpayers for the betterment of the community and extends to missions around the world that improve areas they serve both spiritually and physically.
Churches are often the first line of defense in cases of disaster, riots and in meeting the needs of the destitute.
Without churches, drug and alcohol problems, jail populations and all manner of social ills would explode. Churches earn their tax exemption in a big way.
